Indonesian Cooking Class with Helianti Hilman

It’s time to add another “Element” to your cooking and join us for a very special culinary journey through Indonesian Cuisine! Come along with us while we explore the rich flavours and unique ingredients that Indonesian food has to offer.

We are excited to host a exclusive Indonesian cooking class led by Helianti Hilman, a leading advocate for Indonesia’s food heritage, in collaboration with the Asia New Zealand Foundation. We are excited to showcase Helianti’s passion and knowledge of Indonesian cuisine at Elemental Cooking School, for this not to missed experience.

Helianti Hilman, the Foundation’s Asia-based Honorary Adviser, is dedicated to preserving Indonesia’s rich food traditions and working closely with local communities to support sustainable food practices. In 2008, she founded Javara, an organisation that partners with farmers, foragers, fishers and food artisans to promote heritage food and environmentally friendly practices. In 2017, she also launched Seniman Pangan, a platform focused on food biodiversity and fostering entrepreneurship in rural communities.

Through these initiatives, Helianti has helped uplift thousands of farmers and food producers across Indonesia, building a stronger connection to the region’s vibrant food culture. Her work has earned international recognition, including honours from the United Nations and the Schwab Foundation.

  • Balinese Sate Lilit – Balinese satay with lemongrass
  • Acehnese Spicy Shrimp Sambal with a tangy Bilimbi twist
  • Javanese Fresh Herb salad
  • Traditional Indonesian dessert
